The Sword

The sword is an instrument for war and for peace
Wielded the best by the hand apt to teach.
Its purpose to man, from beginning of time
To kill and destroy creation sub-lime.

The Scriptures in all are clear and complete.
When used by God’s hands none can defeat.
What wisdom denies and men may defy
“Destroy what is evil, then lay it aside.”

Christ spoke of our tongue as a double-edged sword.
For the mouth will produce either love or discord.
Deeper than this, do the words of God go,
For they speak to the heart and beyond to the soul.

Peter did cut the ear from a slave,
Rebuked then by Christ for what it displayed.
Jesus did come that all would hear.
He healed the wound and made himself known.
Holding the power of God in his person.
He chose to become our Spirit’s physician.

We have been given the use of the weapon
Only use it by wisdom and Godly discretion
God’s word, in the end, is all our protection
As Christ is our shield and help in temptation.
On that may our hearts be kept from sedition.
